Asus UK had announced Eee PC T91 – the touch screen enabled tablet PC cum Netbook way back in January 2009. It will be now officially launched in UK in June 2009.
The T91 attractive feature is the nifty 8.9” revolving LED backlit touch screen monitor with 1024×600 resolution. The touch screen display is attached to the rest of the machine via a 180 degree hinge and can be folded over the keyboard to double up the T91 as a tablet PC. The monitor responds to input from more than one finger. It also has a multi-touch mousepad. The underlying hardware is also impressive. It is powered by Intel Atom Z520 Silverthrone 1300MHz processor with 1GB DDR2 RAM. The total storage capacity is 52GB with both solid state and traditional hard drive options. Battery back-up is for 5 hours.
Asus T91 comes pre-installed with Windows XP Operating System along with a host of touch-friendly applications designed by ASUS The T91 is also slated to support Windows 7 when it is released.
Asus T91 is light weight at 990 grams and 226/165/28 mm in size. These dimensions make this convertible Eee PC smaller than the other ones available in the market. It has Intel GMA 500 graphics card for high resolution. The physical interfaces provided in T91 are 2x USB 2.0 ports, VGA, Line-Out /Head Phone, MIC-in, Ethernet 10/100 slot, and SD/ MMC/SDHC memory card slots.
The first ever features of T91 are an in-built GPS, TV tuner card and FM transmitter. With ASUS giving these navigation options in T91 it may be used as a dash-board mounted GPS device. Wireless WAN or 3G is optional in this netbook. T91 is also Bluetooth enabled and has an integrated webcam.
This Eee PC from ASUS is one of the most interesting netbooks you will come around. It is expected to come in white and black color. Current estimated price is $677. This price seems high for an Intel Atom based Netbook as it is slower than the other 900x based Eee PCs. But the Atom processor makes the overall design of T91 thin with low power consumption; which is an advantage for this portable device. The price may come down once it is released in US and other markets.
