Here comes a small, low- cost, good quality netbook from Dell. Latitude 2100 is a colorful netbook which the classrooms would love to have. Its chassis is specifically designed keeping in mind the school going youngsters. This innovative product is the result of combined efforts between Dell and hundreds of students, teachers, parents and network administrators
The specifications of Latitude 2100 are similar to other traditional netbooks. It runs on 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor; has 1GB RAM and is compatible with WIN XP Home, Vista Home Basic and Linux Ubuntu. The first-ever features which will allure the kids are—colorful lids, optional carrying handles, shoulder straps and anti-microbial keyboards. The lids are of yellow, green, red, blue and orange colors. These colorful lids give these netbooks, names like “School Bus Orange”, “Red Apple” and “Blue Ribbon”, “Chalkboard Black”, “Ball Field Green”. They have a small light at the back called the “Network Activity light”. This light can interact with third-party softwares and turns on when a student browses the web. This back light can help the teachers and parents keep a track on the activities of a child when he or she is using the netbook. Dell has provided Latitude 2100 users a netbook personalization option at the back of the system’s battery. Here the students can embed the school’s logo or name for display.
Interfaces in the Latitude 2100 include three USB ports, SD/MMC slot, Gigabit Ethernet 802.11 a/g/n, optional webcam, external DVD+/-RW via USB port and Bluetooth. Latitude has options for SSD and 6-cell battery.
Latitude 2100’s rugged rubberized design makes it somewhat thicker and heavier than the traditional netbooks. The tough design protects the netbook from bumps during traveling or while use in a playground. This netbook has a 10.1 inch optional touch screen display and weighs less than 3lbs. Another interesting add-on to this Dell netbook is the “Mobile Computing Station”. This is an optional rolling storage cart for the Latitudes which can be used in a classroom. It can hold 24 of these netbooks. This cart acts like a docking station where the students can charge their Latitude netbooks. This station also enables the network administrator to update the softwares in the netbooks remotely over the school LAN. Students will be able to access e-learning materials over the school’s intranet or through internet. These unique features like activity light and docking stations of Latitude 2100 will also appeal to buyers outside the educational market.
The base price of latitude 2100 is $349. With optional attachments the price may go up to $600. With Dell’s world class services at offer Latitude 2100 is a good pick for students and businesses as well.
