Google Website- Once you have launched a new website, the first thing you would like to consider is to let the Google know of your newly launched website or blog. For doing this they already have an online tool for this.
Open http://www.google.com/addurl.html and fill up the form and you are all set. Google will crawl your site in their convenience.
After that you need to open an account in hseohttp://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ where you need to follow some steps to identify that you own this site.

You’ll find various Google sitemap generator in the net some are free and some offers their service at a nominal price. This tool crawls your site and generates an XML sitemap. Next step is to put this sitemap in your web server and add this in your Google webmaster account. If Google recognizes your sitemap then it will show the crawl status. Make sure to keep your sitemap up to date periodically.

URL structure- Sometimes we don’t pay much attention on the format of the URL. But a large portion of the search depends on the URL also. If the format or the structure of the URL is good then it helps the spider to crawl and index the page easily and effectively. For example, a page listing.php actually displays products of certain category (say category Restaurants having catid 2345).
This type of url http://www.example.com/list.php?catid=2345&page=1 doesn’t say anything to the spider. But if the URL is formatted like this http://www.example.com/list/category-Restaurants-1.html then spider easily understands the importance of this page and quickly crawls it. This type of URL is colled Search Engine friendly URL. If you place the important keyword in the URL it also gets the importance but remember you shouldn’t put unnecessary keyword in the URL. If your page really has some topics and content on a specific subject then try put the keyword in the URL.

Know your <header> section- In the header section three things can help you to improve your search engine ranking and can bring lots of traffic.
a) Title Tag- If you use the title tag effectively you can save lots of money by taking help from any SEO consultant. The title you put inside the <title></title> should contain keywords which can tell about the site’s content. It must be short and brief and not lengthy. If you create unique title for your pages then it helps Google know that each of the page is different and then it can easily crawls the page.

b) The meta tag- <meta></meta> gives the Search engine an overview of the content of the page. We should effectively use two meta tags here. The description meta tag provides brief overview of the site’s offering.
E.g.- <meta name=”description” content=”free technology magazine for the geek”></meta>

c) Although meta keyword is not so important but you can user it. You can put all your relevant keyword in this tag. Some search engines process the meta keyword tag.
