SimpleTags is a great wordpress plugin which will help you to generate Technorati tags at the bottom of your blog post. Technorati Tags are great ways to categorize your blog and help them to appear in Technorati.com. Unlike SimpleTags, other plugins which do the same job, basically add custom field option at the end of blog post. You put your tags in the custom field which these plugins transform into Technorati Tags. But this requires you to work with the custom fields. However, SimpleTags plugin eliminates this option by providing more flexible option.

So you don’t need to use your WordPress blog posting tool but you can post your blogs from various other channels like email or various blogging tools and still will be able to generate tags. All you have to do is to first identify the tags and put the key words as comma separated within the [tags] … [/tags] at the end of the post. E.g.- [tags] WordPress plugin, wordpress, SimpleTags, SimpleTags plugin[/tags]. This plugin will parse the words and will generate the corresponding Technorati tags with link to Technorati site and will be available to readers visiting via RSS/Atom or web.

Even if you want to make a word/phrase in your blog post to be Technorati tag, you need to enclose it with [tag] … [/tag]. Note the difference here-this is [tag] and not [tags]. So these options will help you to generate Technorati tags by leveraging the two functionalities together. You can highlight some of the words within your blog post to be Technorati tags by [tag][/tag] and rest keywords you can put at the end of the post using [tags][/tags]
