Discover and share new places to Twitter followers through TwitSpot
December 24th, 2009
If you are a very frequent traveler and also enjoy Twitter on the go then TwitSpot can help you to share your favorite places to your friends in Twitter. It helps you to Tweet anything related to your travel experiences. The service uses the Twitter API and Google map API and helps you to share the spots in the map to your twitter followers. That means your follower gets the opportunity to see some interesting places which you have visited or discovered. Using TwitSpot you can share a new restaurant you have found which offers delicious foods or a new cafe. Not necessarily in US but you can share any place in the world to your followers.
To use this service you don’t need to have a new account with them rather you can use your existing twitter account to login to the service and tweet on your travel experience. Once you have shared your favorite place, TwitSpot takes care of sharing this to your friends and followers in twitter account as well as to world through their site.
The site is very fast to load and it loads the map in the home page. Interesting places are getting highlighted in a small popup window. The latest sharing are displayed into the left panel window and no refreshing is required. the design of the site is very good with web 2.0 design and table less. The graphics and color used are very smoothing and looks very neat and clean. The Alexa rank is not much high only 11,266,020 till writing this review but hopefully it will be increased as this site is very newly launched and there is not much traffic yet.
Right now, for each place you spot through TwitSpot you are rewarded 10 points and if your friend likes this place you again gain 1 point more but if your friend dislikes it you lose 1 point. Though at present TwiSpot has not decided how you are going to redeem your earned points but we hope they have some good plans for their members.

Top 5 JQuery scripts to spice up your website or design
December 8th, 2009Top 5 JQuery scripts to spice up your website or design:
1. jcarousel - Think about this scenario, you have an e-commerce site and for each product you have multiple photos
which you want to show to the buyer, how you will do that?
You need to have a separate gallery page for doing this. But one problem here, the page will be little slow because it will try to load all the photos you’ll put in the gallery page. Also, user might not click the page to see the photos also. So, what is the solution then? You can use the carousel technology to provide a slideshow of your photos in one page and jcarousel will help you in this situation. Check the nice examples of how many different possibilities can ba designed using jcarousel:

2. ThickBox- ThickBox is developed with jQuery which is a replacement of old browser modal dialog box. When it is
it is invoked it creates a shadow layer on top of the browser window and displays the content (say image or form)
on the same page. The advantage of ThickBox is you can show a single image, multiple images, inline content, iframed
content, or content served through AJAX on the same page and user is not required to go another page.

3. Table Sorter- Now user can sort table data on any column of the table but for this there is no page load or any
server call using ajax etc. In client side simple way you can provide various functionality to the user to sort.

4.Field validation- If you dislike loading a page to validate what user has entered then you can use the power of this
script. This simple to use validation script displays error message to the user in real time. Very light weight and
abosolutely easy to use. Just add the path of the script to webpage and attach it to the form’s “onsubmit” event.

5. Tabulations - This jQuery script creates multiple tabs on a single page just like what recent browsers are doing.
This is very useful when you have lots of forms to fill up by the user and then instead of submitting the long form
in a single page (know what, I have seen after user has finished filling up the form he has got seesion time out
message and and at the same time he has lost all the data, isn’t it called bad user experience, huh?) you can break
the form in multiple segments and when user moves from one tab to another tab you can actually save the data through
Ajax in the database so that at the end he doesn’t lose any data.
Also you can show multiple pages of documentation in these tabular pages as well so user can browse each page but
he is not required to leave the page.

Send parcel to friends through Twitter
November 25th, 2009
Can you imagine sending parcel or gift to your friends through Twitter without knowing his/her Mailing address? Yes this is true and this has been made possible by the web company SendSocial. It allows you to send parcel to your Twitter friends if you know the recipient’s Twitter Id or email address. So here the recipient doesn’t need to disclose his/her personal details or info to anyone.
How the web application works?
Well, SendSocial sends a notification to the recipient that you want to send some gift to him/her. If the person agrees to accept the SendSocial takes the address details from them to process by sending them a form to fill up. The data is stored in encrypted format in SendSocial’s database.
Now sender is notified and is asked to confirm the pickup address and the payments for the processing. Once this is complete, sender gets an address-less label to stick to the package and this package is collected by myHermes, the partner of sendSocial and is delivered in 3-5 working days. So is not is good that the sender’s and recipient’s address and personal details still remain private whereas you can deliver any gift to your online friend easily.
So a good way to start sending Thanks giving and Christmas gifts to your friends…
